Armando Reverón

He was born on May 10th, 1889 (Caracas, Venezuela).

His work inspired by the beauty of the sea and the female nude, is recognized and valued in the country and Latin America to the point of being considered the best painter of the twentieth century.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Caracas, in Spain and France. From 1921 he settled in Macuto, Vargas state, where he did much of his work. His favorite subjects were the landscape and the female nude, was enthusiastic of French Impressionism and is deeply interested in the action of light on the forms. In time, Reverón evolved to abstraction and symbolism, and today is considered one of the best Venezuelan painters of the twentieth century.

He died on September 18th, 1954.(Caracas, Venezuela)

• Desnudo (1934) Óleo y temple sobre arpillera 106 x 98 cm.
