Rhodesian ridgeback

The Rhodesian ridgeback is a dog breed that hails from Southern Africa. Also known as the African Lion Dog, they were originally bred to hunt lions.

Tall and muscular, Rhodesian ridgebacks are distinguished by the ridge of hair that runs along its back, opposite to the rest of the coat. They are loyal and intelligent dogs, somewhat aloof, but not aggressive. In training, they require fair and and reward-based treatment.
