A flying boat is a hybrid plane that can fly in the sky like a regular plane and float on water like a boat. A flying boat uses its watertight body as a hull to float instead of relying on the two large floats (slender pontoons) mounted under the fuselage for buoyancy, as with most float planes. One important benefits of flying boats is that they don't need expensive runways to land.
