The process of intensification of an atmospheric disturbance, most commonly applied to cyclones and anticyclones. From the dynamical viewpoint, development usually implies the generation of vorticity in the atmosphere due to the action of the baroclinic structure of the flow or to the addition of energy to the disturbance, as distinct from the barotropic redistribution of vorticity.

Isotope of hydrogen, having one proton and one neutron in the nucleus; heavy hydrogen. Deuterium is a nonradioactive form of hydrogen, occurring naturally with an abundance of about 0. 016%. Deuterium is widely used in spectroscopic and kinetic studies, since the large relative mass difference from hydrogen can lead to very different chemical and physical properties of the compounds in which it is contained.

To remove any background linear variation in a time series of data by first computing a linear regression (such as least squares best fit) to the data, and then subtracting it from the data.
