Cloud email describes a vendor-offered, multi-tenant, Internet-delivered email service that is scalable and flexible. Some examples of cloud email services include Yahoo Mail, GMail, Hotmail and others.

Multitenancy is a reference to the mode of operation of software where multiple independent instances of one or multiple applications operate in a shared environment. The instances (tenants) are logically isolated, but physically integrated. The degree of logical isolation must be complete, but the degree of physical integration will vary. The more physical integration, the harder it is to preserve the logical isolation. The tenants (application instances) can be representations of organizations that obtained access to the multitenant application (this is the scenario of an ISV offering services of an application to multiple customer organizations). The tenants may also be multiple applications competing for shared underlying resources (this is the scenario of a private or public cloud where multiple applications are offered in a common cloud environment).

A versatile authentication server or service (VAS) is a single authentication product or service supporting user authentication in multiplatform environments (on-premises and in the cloud). It may be delivered as server software, a virtual or hardware appliance, or a cloud-based service. In addition to the VAS vendor’s own and OEMed proprietary methods, if any, a VAS must support either open authentication methods or third-party proprietary authentication methods, without the need for separate third-party authentication servers or services.

A platform as a service (PaaS) offering, usually depicted in all-cloud diagrams between the SaaS layer above it and the IaaS layer below, is a broad collection of application infrastructure (middleware) services (including application platform, integration, business process management and database services). However, the hype surrounding the PaaS concept is focused mainly on application PaaS (aPaaS) as the representative of the whole category.
Industry:Technology
Gartner defines business process as a service (BPaaS) as the delivery of business process outsourcing (BPO) services that are sourced from the cloud and constructed for multitenancy. Services are often automated, and where human process actors are required, there is no overtly dedicated labor pool per client. The pricing models are consumption-based or subscription-based commercial terms. As a cloud service, the BPaaS model is accessed via Internet-based technologies.
Industry:Technology
Bandwidth as currency initially involved customers purchasing a prepaid phone card that allowed subscribers to transfer surplus telecommunication minutes to other subscribers using text messages. Suppliers can be paid in the same way, and a bank of phone minute credits can be maintained and sold to others in the network. Cloud computing introduces an additional concept by creating an environment for the dynamic management of compute capabilities that can be traded.
Industry:Technology
Money cloud platform development projects are collaborative initiatives that attempt to create a technology platform and protocol standards to enable multiple, interoperable currencies to exist on the Internet. The goal is to create an open-source technology environment that decentralizes the monetary economy, and enables person-to-person (P2P) transactions without a central controlling system or proprietary technology.
Industry:Technology
Zero-latency enterprise (ZLE) is any strategy that exploits the immediate exchange of information across technical and organizational boundaries to achieve business benefit. For example, technical boundaries exist between different operating systems, database management systems and programming languages. “Immediate” implies being fast enough to bring all of the business benefits that simultaneous knowledge can potentially achieve. Latency cannot literally be zero in any real system because computers need time to “think.”

ZigBee is a global wireless mesh networking technology based on the IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard. Consumer applications include electronics, smart meter infrastructure, home automation and machine-to-machine automation. The technology can be used in several topologies, such as point-to-point or simple mesh. Battery life and low cost — a chip costs $1 to $2; $2 to $4 (with a controller required for most applications) — are prime concerns about the technology, and ZigBee’s targeted battery life and data rates differentiate it from Wi-Fi.

X Windows is the software system written for managing windows under Unix. A graphics architecture, application programming interface (API) and prototype implementation developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, X Windows defines a client/server relationship between the applications program and the workstation. It is not, however, a complete graphical user interface (GUI), but rather the basis upon which one can be built.
