My favorite food is the Sichuan hotpot. It's a dish that both the chef and customers prepare together. The chef prepares the soup with special ingredients and cuts the fresh meat and vegetables. The soup is then placed in a pot and allowed to boil on the serving table. The customers then dip the meet, vegetables in the boiling soup and cook the food to their perfect tenderness. Hotpot is an addictive dish for many Chinese because of the special ingredients (namely Chinese pepper, chilies and other exotic ingredients) in the soup. It's also a fun way to eat as it creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for friends and families.
Although it may not be considered a "side dish", in Turkey, either plain yogurt or a big bowl of green salad is almost always served. Most people don't consider a dinner/lunch table complete without one or the other.
In most of Latin America one can find both rice and beans with almost every meal. I'm hesitant to state that as a rule and say "every" without qualifying it with "almost", all the same. tony
